BR Volleys 2020: a year
of highs and lows

The year 2020 has left its mark on everyone. Despite everything, the BR Volleys have consistently risen to the extraordinary challenges. They have found practical solutions and lived up to their sporting credo of solidarity and support.
Inclusive volleyball court for everyone
This is also evident in the Volleys’ appeal for donations at the end of 2020. With these donations, they are supporting the construction of an inclusive volleyball court in Berlin Lichtenberg. The former mobile volleyball court, which the Volleys used for many years to entertain Berlin children at events, is to find a permanent home on the premises of “RBO-Inmitten GmbH” at Möllendorffstraße 68. However, this requires some renovation and repair work. To finance this, a crowdfunding project has been launched on Berlin Recycling Crowd and support is being sought.
Westicktogether
But the BR Volleys are now perhaps even more dependent than before on the support of their fans.
As at the beginning of the year, the team must continue to do without the support of fans during their games. In order to ensure a dignified atmosphere nonetheless, the #Wirhaltenzusammen initiative has been launched in cooperation with the name sponsor Berlin Recycling GmbH. Fans and supporters can take their places as cardboard cutouts in the stands of the West Tribune in the Max-Schmeling-Halle during the top match against VfB Friedrichshafen (Jan. 27, 2021).
However, the BR Volleys would not be the volleyball team loved by its fans if only the team and the club benefited from this campaign. The Berlin City Mission is also supported by this campaign.
BR Volleys – The best of the best
This commitment has not gone unnoticed, of course. This year’s “Champions – Berlin’s Athletes of the Year” awards honor the biggest stars from over 40 years of award history. Thanks to the support of the fans, Kaweh Roomand was not only named best coach/manager, but the entire team was voted into third place, ahead of even the traditional club 1.FC Union Berlin.
But things remain exciting on the sporting front too
After a promising 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21) opening victory against ACH Volley Ljubljana, the Volleys had to digest a 0-3 defeat (21-25, 19-25, 18-25) in the Champions League. So it remains exciting.
